The valleys of the Rivers Lot
and Garonne offer many
delights such as boat trips and small beaches for freshwater
swimming. On the Canal Latéral-a-la-Garonne you can hire
your own small boat for a day or half day, take a picnic
and meander slowly along the tree-lined water-ways of this |

UNESCO World Heritage site travelling through ancient
locks and past elegant waterside buildings and beautiful
fields and orchards. Also
within easy reach are the historic towns of Agen, Marmande
and Villeneuve – all about 20 mins drive. Visit
their “old quarters” with magnificent old buildings,
churches and market halls – many dating back to the middle
ages.

Take
a fifteen minute drive to the south or to the east and
you will find yourself travelling amongst the
hilltop
'bastide' towns and villages of
an area similar to Tuscany. Travel west and you'll find a
huge area of pine woods and deciduous
forest.

Just
over fifty minutes to the north-west would see you
leaving the myriad world-famous vineyards of the region and crossing the
River Garonne via the Pont-de-Pierre
in beautiful Bordeaux, one of France's foremost and most
elegant cities. |

In the same
time-frame, but travelling north-east, you would be viewing
the valley of the Dordogne, similar
scenery in many ways to the hills and valleys of the Lot-et-Garonne. Unfortunately, you will find yourself sharing the Dordogne scenery
with hordes of other tourists. Fortunately, they don't know
what lies further south! |

In around an
hour and a half to the west, you could be gazing down huge
stretches of beach, enjoying tranquil coastal lakes, or swimming in
the Atlantic ocean. In the opposite direction, ninety
minutes would see you exploring the wondrous waterfalls and gorges of the
Tarn |

And finally, just about two
hours to the south of us, stand the stunning 10,000 feet
peaks of Les
Pyrénées,
the barrier separating France from Spain.
So, there you have it...
Stunning scenery to enjoy while you're travelling, and more
stunning scenery when
you arrive.
